  Statistical First Release:  
  Higher Education Student Enrolments and Qualifications Obtained at Higher Education Institutions in the United Kingdom for the Academic Year 2009/10  
  Publication date: 13 January 2011  
  [Prepared and published by the Higher Education Statistics Agency (HESA) in consultation with statisticians in BIS and the Devolved Administrations].  
  This is an annual publication which shows (a) the total number of students currently studying in HE, and (b) the numbers of students obtaining HE qualifications. Tables show separate figures for each of the home countries. Last year's version of the SFR was published on January 14th. The tables show trends over recent years for:
  • total students enrolled on postgraduate and undergraduate courses by home domicile, mode of study and subject;
  • the number of students obtaining postgraduate and undergraduate qualifications
  • the number and proportion of graduates by home domicile, mode of study, gender, subject and class of degree.

  Additional information  
  Tables 1a and 2a, all and first year (respectively) student enrolments on HE courses by location of institution, mode of study and domicile have been further disaggregated by level of study for the academic years, 2008/09 and 2009/10.

For the first time the 2009/10 student enrolments and qualifications obtained Statistical First Release will include figures from the HESA Aggregate Offshore Record. This record concerns students studying (to date) wholly outside the UK who are either registered with a UK HE institution or are studying for an award of a UK HE institution. Statistics from this record will be shown in Table 8; Students studying wholly overseas by location, type, level of provision and location of institution 2008/09 and 2009/10.
